In this workshop, participants will explore the rich diversity of traditional Philippine textiles, the different regions they come from, and the stories they carry. Through the symbols, motifs, and materials, participants will learn about their history and cultural significance. We will focus on weaving using a frame loom and learn how to make patterns into the weaving through a variety of techniques. By the end, participants will create their own pieces inspired by Philippine textile designs.

Timothy Manalo is a sculpture, textile, and installation artist born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He graduated with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from OCAD University, majoring in Sculpture and Installation and completed a Master’s in Fine Arts in Studio Art from the SMFA at Tufts University in Boston. Manalo was a recipient of the 2023/2024 Leisa Rich Fibre Arts Residency Award at the Contemporary Textile Studio and Co-op.
