“Mending with care, stitching with stillness”.

In this two-day workshop, we’ll step away from the rush of daily life and immerse ourselves in the meditative process of Boro mending and mindful stitching—Japanese traditions rooted in repair, renewal, and reverence for cloth. Guided by the Japanese principle of Mottainai—the deep respect for materials and the belief that nothing is wasted, we’ll work with reclaimed textiles to explore how simple stitches can transform discarded fabric into something of lasting beauty and meaning. This is not about rushing to finish a product, but about experiencing the rhythm of slow stitching, connecting with fabric, and finding joy in the act of making.

Open to all skill levels! — Whether you are a beginner or an experienced maker, this workshop offers a welcoming space to experiment, reflect, and create.

Workshop Flow Day One – Explore the foundations of Boro mending through hand-stitching on reclaimed fabrics. Learn to layer, patch, and stitch with intention as you create your own textured textile piece. The emphasis is on process, material connection, and mindful making.

Day Two – Continue evolving your stitched fabric, with the option to shape it into a crossbody bag frame—transforming your work into a piece you can carry in your daily life. The emphasis remains on the creative journey, with each participant encouraged to progress at their own pace.

*This is a stitching-focused workshop. Kindly carry your reading glasses if you require them for detailed work.
