This twp-day workshop explores the world of natural dye motifs - specifically adapted for use on wool. You’ll learn the basics of two techniques for natural dye painted/printed motifs: iron mordant paste and direct application extract pastes.

Instruction will also include the preparation of wool fabrics, print paste recipes, motif application, and finishing steps.

Participants will finish with a collection of samples and a pair of custom wool socks. Knitters/crocheters are encouraged to bring a small handmade sample to add a motif to.

Charlotte Little is a textile artist and researcher investigating fashion ecologies and localized textile production in Canada. She holds a BFA in Textiles from Concordia University (2022) and an MA in Fashion from Toronto Metropolitan University (2025) and works professionally in the textile industry. Based in Halifax and Toronto, her work blends academic research and artistic practice, focusing on radical sustainability, speculative textile design, and place-based knowledge. Working in a range of mediums, including natural dye, weaving, knitting, and assemblage, Charlotte is interested in the power of locally sourced materials in designing sustainable futures.
