Sabine Spare is a Toronto based textile artist. After graduating from OCAD University with a Bachelor’s of Design in Material Art and Design, she began her career creating bespoke clothing and elaborate costumes for big names such as Eugene Levy and Nelly Furtado. With her accessories brand Spare Label she became known for her innovative use of contemporary fabric marbling techniques. Spare’s work has notably been featured in Toronto Makes, TrendHunter, Art Insider, Material District, Talente 2020 (Munich) and Vogue Britain. Spare has collaborated with a diverse roster of clients including the Drake Hotel, Merrill House, Demmy, MakeJoy, Seed Learning Garden and MOCA Toronto. She has participated in residencies both locally in Toronto and abroad, most recently in the Textiles studio at Harbourfront Centre. Spare is also an experienced educator. She has taught sewing and textile art techniques in a range of settings to youth, newcomers, hobbyists and professional artists. As an IATSE 873 Member, Spare has worked as textile artist and breakdown artist for several film and television productions including 13: the Musical!, Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
