An Evening with Ekta Kaul
Thursday August 28
6:00 - 8:00 pm
Join us for an evening with Ekta Kaul, an India-born, London-based artist known for her narrative maps that explores place, memory, and belonging through stitch and abstract painting. Drawing inspiration from personal and collective histories she creates works rooted in place, sometimes real, remembered or imagined.
Ekta will talk about her work and her new book, Kantha: Sustainable Textiles & Mindful Making, before inviting you to access the calm and quiet of nature through simple stitches and mark making based on observing botanicals.
Please bring some embroidery thread, needles, and an embroidery hoop to this event.
Ekta trained at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and earned her masters degree in the UK. Her work is held in prominent collections including the Museum of London, the Crafts Council, the Gunnersbury Museum, in the UK and Morgan Stanley, India.
Ekta is also an experienced educator. She teaches internationally at institutions such at Victoria & Albert Museum (UK) and Tatter Library (USA), among others.
Her book Kantha, published by Bloomsbury UK, celebrates women’s creative voices and offers an expressive, narrative approach to stitch.
Her practice has been featured on BBC Radio 4 and in publications such as Vogue, Living Etc, Financial Times, Selvedge, and Embroidery magazine. She has received awards from the Crafts Council and was the recipient of the 2021 Cockpit Arts Textile Prize.
