Natural Imagery in Cheesecloth

with Mary Pal

Saturday September 28 + Sunday September 29
11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Tuition: $175 + HST + $25 Materials Fee (collected in class)
Maximum 12 participants

This workshop explores the low-relief technique of using cheesecloth as a medium to depict natural imagery in textiles. Students will learn how to translate photographs, sketches, or abstract ideas into images and apply them to a background fabric. This workshop is designed for those who enjoy experimentation and new methods of using colour, texture and a variety of techniques and processes. All levels of experience are welcome.
The first day, all students will be given a simple tree pattern to learn the basic techniques. A group discussion will clarify all options for Day 2 projects. On the second day, students will work on independent projects building on what they have learned.
The applique stage will be explained and demonstrated in the class, but students will complete that step at home between classes, so sewing machines do not need to be transported to the studio. The supply list is minimal - just scissors, rotary cutter, and paintbrushes.
